Nutmeg is safe and beneficial in normal culinary amounts (a pinch to ¼ tsp per dish). However, in very large doses (more than 5g / 1 tablespoon at once), nutmeg can cause psychoactive effects, nausea, and toxicity due to high myristicin content.
